2013 heavy tackle season

The 2013 season on the Great Barrier Reef finished up with trips being spectacular with fantastic weather and some really big fish. Including 5 days of fishing that produced these black marlin ( 1000lbs + 900lbs 850lbs 800lbs 550lbs 450lbs 250lbs 150lbs and some great bottom fishing and spearfishing for 4 anglers that had never been marlin fishing before. Also all the regulars were lucky enough to score some fantastic fishing and weather. The boat went like a dream and the crew can’t wait till next year hopefully we see you there.

Yellowtail kingfish

Looks a streamline fish torpedo in shape fish. When it’s alive it has deep blue along its back with a bit of green close to the gold band that separates the blu back from the silvery belly . the pelvic and the anal fin are yellow and the tail is bright yellow.its a powerful and fast looking fish with a mouthful of small teeth

SIZE

The king fish on the Gold Coast grow to about 2 metres and can way up to 50kg

WHERE THEY LIVE

they are pelagic fish but larger fish become permanent resident where ever there is a constant supply of smaller bait fish and crabs octopus and squid.On the Gold Coast any where from 20m of water to 120m of water there are kingfish. Out in the deep water we get some really large schools with some very large and powerful fish amongst them

BAIT AND TACKLE

Live yakka and slimy mackeral.
Softplastics 5 and 7 inch 3/8 to 1 1/2 jigheads
Jigs 8g to 300g
Bait squid pilchard and fresh strip baits

Gold Coast – February 2013

Great baby black marlin continues with fish showing up again in shallow grounds off the coast. Fish still being caught up off Fraser Island and the Sunshine Coast should see them passing through here for many weeks to come.

In recent trips we have been getting multiple bites and also the odd wahoo and dolphin fish. Here are some photos of recent catches.
